JROTC Cavalier Club is an elective course at Cookeville High School to complement students required secondary education curriculum and focus on the development of making better citizens. Additionally, JROTC sponsors its own club designated as the JROTC Cavalier Club. JROTC class enrollment is required and membership within the club is voluntary. The mission of JROTC is “To Motivate Young People To Be Better Citizens”. As such, our charter’s priority is to make students (known as cadets) better citizens and productive members of the community allowing them the opportunity to continue their growth and achieve their goals in life through leadership, education, discipline, motivation, and last but not least, hard work on their part. JROTC sponsors its JROTC Cavalier Club as a means to afford each class period (known as companies) an opportunity to interact as a single organization called the Cavalier Battalion. The two JROTC Instructors are the club sponsors who oversee the actions of the club. These sponsors take the leadership role as the club’s facilitators to ensure that the JROTC Club achieves its purpose and goals. Hands-on leadership comes from the designated student-driven chain of command responsible for the clubs day-to-day activities. The sponsors provide minimum input as required and attend club functions as necessary. The JROTC Club meets at a minimum twice on the first and third Thursday of each month during the first half of the “All Together Lunch” period (30-minutes). These meetings are conducted in the JROTC drill hall by the JROTC class cadet chain-of-command. Each club member assembles within their perspective company to participate within the club’s agenda for that meeting.
