STARSÉÉÉSTUDENTS TAKING
A RIGHT STAND!
December
2007
Dear
Parent(s) or Guardian(s):
During
the 2007-08 school year, the Student Assistance Program, STARS (Students Taking
A Right Stand), may involve your son/daughter in a variety of activities
developed to assist his/her ability to cope with the everyday pressures that
adolescent or pre-adolescent school-aged children may experience.
Groups
as well as individual discussions will take place on topics including drug and
alcohol abuse, self-concept, decision-making and coping skills. In addition, we will conduct pre and
post surveys to determine their progress in individual and group participation
by measuring increases in self-esteem, positive no-drug-use attitude,
non-rebelliousness, increased school value and social attitude. Also, pre and post surveys will be
conducted to assist STARS in proving program effectiveness. From time to time,
STARS specialists conduct grade level as well as school-wide presentations to
expand our prevention efforts.
This
program will explore and maximize the positive influence young people can have
on each other as well as effect changes in their behavior and overall
outlook. Please know that every
effort will be made to avoid interrupting the student academic schedule. All
information is strictly confidential and we welcome your involvement and
support.
