January 2008
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe that we are already in our second semester and that the school year is half over.
The PTSO at Cookeville High School is looking forward to another great year and hopes that you will join
us in becoming an integral part of your child’s high school experience. More than 2,300 students are
enrolled at CHS this year. YOU are needed to help make this year a successful, happy, and safe one for
your child!
Our PTSO coordinates an active parent volunteer program. Every school day, eight to ten
volunteers spend time at CHS. They assist with clerical work, hospitality, in science labs, and as “experts”
willing to share their knowledge with students. Can you help in some way? If so, or if you just want more
information, please call Lisa Brooksbank, our parent volunteer coordinator, at 528-2658. If you wish to be
involved with our PTSO board and attend board meetings, please contact our Secretary, Kathy Callahan at
520-8483.
In addition to your interest and physical presence, we also need your financial support.
Unfortunately, the school system budget cannot provide for all the needs at individual schools. That’s
where PTSO funds come in. In the past, we have paid for such things as security cameras, materials for the
teachers’ resource library, supplies and equipment for classrooms, beautification of the commons areas,
parking lot improvements, snacks for students taking math exit exams, teacher appreciation luncheons, and
the bonfire at the final home football game, just to name a few things.
Rather than sponsoring fund-raisers, we are asking parents and other interested CHS supports for a
one-time monetary donation to help support our students and faculty. Any amount that you can give,
however large or small, will be appreciated and put to good use. Checks should be made out to CHSPTSO.
Checks can be mailed to CHS-PTSO, 2335 North Washington Avenue, Cookeville, TN, 38501 or
your child may bring the check to school and leave it with his first period teacher. You may also deliver
your check to the main office at CHS. Teachers and staff will make sure that the funds are delivered to us.
High school is NOT the time to stop being involved in your child’s education. Your teenager
needs you now more than ever. PTSO is an excellent way to build bonds between parents, students, and
school. If you have questions or suggestions of way to make CHS better than ever, feel free to contact me
at 432-1240 or 261-0561 or by email at mrobbins@n2thenet.com.
