ACT Prep Series: Classes will be offered March 11th- April 8th and May 13th- June 10th.  Classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays at TTU in Henderson Hall, Room TBA.  The cost is $65.  These classes can help relieve test anxiety and better prepare students for the content areas of the ACT.  General test taking strategies, as well as specific strategies for taking the ACT assessment, will be taught along with a review of the major content areas:  English, reading, math, and science reasoning.  The deadline to register for the April 12th ACT test date is March 7th.  To register, you can call 372- 3304.

Attention Sophomores:

 

The Leadership Putnam Youth Academy is a community – based program for outstanding tenth grade students.  Students have the opportunity to learn more about issues facing Putnam County, participate in leadership style assessments, develop leadership skills, and explore career opportunities.  The LPYA students selected from CHS will attend a retreat this summer in June, to participate in many local activities.  More information will be presented to all tenth graders through their English classes sometime in February.

 

“College Financial Aid Night”- There will be an informational meeting for parents and students on Thursday, January 17th at 7:00PM in the CHS Lecture Hall.   FAFSA form and scholarship information will be discussed.

FAFSA – (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) The FAFSA is the form the government uses to determine your eligibility to receive Pell grants for vocational school, community (2 year) or four- year colleges AND to receive the TN HOPE Lottery Scholarship.  Apply online for faster results at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Family income information for 2007 is required to complete the form.  Both parent and student need pin numbers.  Go to www.pin.ed.gov.   

Tennessee HOPE Lottery Scholarship- To receive the Lottery Scholarship at a two or four- year college, students must have an ACT score of 21 or a 3.0 unweighted GPA.  **Students must maintain 3.0 GPA throughout senior year.

2008- 09 CHS Registration-
Counselors will be registering upcoming ninth graders and our current 9th- 11th students throughout the month of February.  Counselors will be visiting Avery Trace Middle School and Algood School eighth grade classes on Thursday, January 24th.  Parents, look for curriculum guides and registration materials to come home during this time.  Also, keep up- to- date with current registration information by visiting us at www.cookevillecavaliers.com.

PTSO info: Thank you to all parents who responded so generously to the letter sent by the PTSO last fall requesting funds.  If you have not yet had the opportunity to contribute to the PTSO and would like to do so, please send a check payable to CHS PTSO, 2335 North Washington Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501.  The PTSO contributes to a number of events such as school wide student functions, report card mailings, and other worthwhile activities.
